Service (Construction)
As a self-assigned "observer," I see aesthetics and action of art in every aspect of our environment, both built and natural. Before returning to academia, I spent nearly everyday using my body and nature as a tool to connect with that idea. I have worked as a mason since 2019 in both wet and dry applications (with and without the use of mortar/concrete.) While I originally tended and laid for a seasoned brick-and-block mason from North Carolina, the bulk of my masonry experience is based in stone. My previous company produced high-end residential stonework, such as constructing pool decks, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, piers, and of course dry-stone walls, patios, steps, and more. I have worked with fieldstone, granite, bluestone, mica schist (Goshen stone) and travertine, but I am open to any stone. Please visit the website of my previous company to see the caliber of work I am capable of. Additionally, you can reach out and I will share a copy of my stonework portfolio from 2021 to present.
That care for natural material weaves into my larger interest in the natural world's relationship to the built environment, and how core material of structure is sourced from a singular entity.
My practice revolves around the problem-solving of contracted construction and the informed, slow-paced nature of poetry. I am interested in creative problem solving for those who would like to participate (or collaborate) or some form of built solution.
My timeline is unspecified, and I often need time to sit with things before coming to a conclusion. I make models (maquettes) of tentative decisions or interventions, and reflect on them obsessively until I feel they are conclusive. Additionally, I am a full-time graduate student at SUNY New Paltz which is my first priority at present.
Please reach out for creative constructive projects. I can build with material other than masonry, including: carpentry, welding (mild steel, MIG process), 3D printing, electrical. I am open to researching and learning in order to help resolve a problem aesthetically. Below are some projects, stone and other, that I have recently fabricated.
